The number of covid-19 infections across the UK surpassed one million infections for the first time since mid-October, according to new figures released this Friday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The number of people who tested positive for coronavirus in homes across the country rose to 1 million in the seven-day period to November 21, up 6% from the 972,400 cases recorded the week before.
The data disclosed by the aforementioned official body was disseminated at the same time that the levels of hospital admissions for covid-10 in centers in England also rose.
The data points to the first increase in the number of infections across the country since October 17 and comes just a week after those infection levels had fallen below 1 million for the first time since mid-September.
In England alone, the number of people who tested positive for coronavirus between November 14 and 21 was 873,200, up from 809,200 the week before.
According to the information provided by the ONS, in Wales there were six consecutive weeks of falls, with 39,600 cases in the last reported -one infected for every 75 citizens-, while in Scotland infections increased to 91,000 -one infected for every 60 people-, compared to 83,700 the previous week.
Northern Ireland reported 28,900 positives – one in 65 people – a drop from 34,100 the previous week.
